This past Wednesday, Google announced the launch of Google Vault. Google Vault is a records management and eDiscovery solution for the Google Apps suite of services. Here is what Google had to say about the motivation for such a service:

Businesses of all sizes need to be prepared for the unexpected. In today’s environment, using Vault to manage, archive and preserve your data can help protect your business. Litigation costs can really take a toll on a business when minor lawsuits can run up to many thousands of dollars, and larger lawsuits can cost even more. Significant litigation costs come from having to search and find relevant data, which is also known as electronic discovery (eDiscovery).

We’re extremely excited about this announcement as it completely underscores our belief that businesses need a simple and affordable information governance solution for data in the cloud. Google Vault will enable its hundreds of thousands of paying customers automatically archive records for Gmail, Google Docs, and various other Google services. But, of course, there is more to the cloud than just Google’s services. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are equally significant platforms for business communications. This begs the question: is there a Google Vault for social media?

Yes. That is, coming soon. At ArchiveSocial we are building a fully cloud-based solution to enable records management and eDiscovery for social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. We believe businesses of all sizes need to be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to social media interactions. And most importantly, we believe that such a service should be simple and affordable. We’re ArchiveSocial — but perhaps you might think of us as the Google Vault for Social Media.
